Study Tour on Effective Food-Waste Recycling
Italian Compost and Biogas Association (CIC), 22-24 September, Milan (IT)
The study tour is intended to give MSW management experts and managers an overview of current best-practices and approaches in foodwaste separate collection and recycling. The tour will start on the 1st day by visiting the solutions applied in Milan, currently Europe’s largest Cities with a full implementation of separate collection for foodwaste from households. A second specific visit will be done, so to understand the differences in managing foodwaste in apartment blocks and in semidetached housing structures.
Furthermore 2 biological treatment plants will be visited, both with low-tech and high-tech solutions for composting and anaerobic digestion, accepting foodwaste collected with compostable bioplastic liners and bags.
The Workshop with CIC on the 2nd day will focus on efficient operational solutions, effective instruments and tools supplied to households in high-rise areas to enhance collection of foodwaste. The standard technologies to recover biowaste into compost and biogas will be discussed, including the details about how to management compostable bioplastic bags.
Participants will also have the opportunity to visit EXPO2015 on the 24 September, the Universal Exhibition that Milan hosts until October; EXPO2015 is a global showcase where more than 140 participating countries will show the best of their technology that offers a concrete answer to a vital need: being able to guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, while respecting the Planet and its equilibrium.
